Keep the Magic Alive...a World of YA Fantasy
Ruby
Hood was an interesting creation. I wrote her story when I moved back to Vegas
just over 2 years ago. But now she is real; she’s not just a figment of my
imagination. She’s an actual published character. And there are actual people
that have read her story, “The Twistedly
True Tale of Ruby Hood”. SO it’s like she’s real…kinda. Then it dawned on
me the other day that I gave her a March 21st birthday. If we follow
the book, she would be 18 today. It made me think about everything she went through
in book one and suddenly a path to where she was going swirled around in my
subconscious. Thankfully, that brief moment of inspiration realigned my focus for
book 2. In fact, it was perfect timing because I have been stuck for MONTHS.
When I
created Ruby, I always intended her to be a bright strong-willed teenager. Her
father died when she was very young, but she was happy and readily anticipating
her senior year. However Ruby, at the end of book 1, is far cry from the happy-go-lucky
book worm introduced at the beginning of the story. I like our heroine at the
end way more than the sweet innocent girl that started the journey with me back
in spring 2012.
Happy
birthday, Ruby Hood! Thank you for the creative and wild ride! I look forward
to many more years in your company!
Check out a synopsis of “The
Twistedly True Tale of Ruby Hood”, book 1:
In the small town of Woodsville, self-assured
Ruby Hood becomes tangled in more than traditional teenage angst. With the
Homecoming Dance looming, everything at Woodsville High appears normal, but
things are not as they seem. Ruby meets a cute boy with a lopsided grin,
Dylan Hunter. She flirts shamelessly with the football star, Kent Wolf, and
finds herself in a barrage of harsh verbal altercations with his stunning yet
wicked sister, Kayla Wolf. Thankfully, she finds solace in her friend, Lilly
Fair. Through a series of odd and painful events, Ruby discovers her true
calling and the responsibilities that come with her new power and position.
Despite her heartache and sorrow, will Ruby find the inner strength not only to
protect herself, but also to keep the Wood safe at all cost?
